Key Takeaways
Starbucks bottle Frappuccino’s have caffeine that ranges from 40-115 mg per 13.7 fl. oz. serving
This is more than a than a basic cup of coffee. Consider though that is based on an 8 oz. cup. An equal sized cup of coffee will have more.
Bottled Frappuccino’s have significantly less caffeine per serving than the FDA-recommended limit of 400 mg daily
Does Regular Coffee Have More Caffeine Than Starbucks Frappuccino?
You might be wondering if a regular cup of joe has more or less caffeine than a Frappuccino at Starbucks.
I took the average amount of caffeine per bottle of Frappuccino from the most popular flavors: mocha, coffee, and vanilla. And compared them in the table below to the levels of caffeine in a cup of black coffee and a hand-crafted Grande Frapp.
All 3 have comparable amount of caffeine per serving between 95-105 mg based on the most common serving sizes. Even though an 8 oz. cup of plain black coffee as the others, it contains the most caffeine at 190 mg if you scale it up to the same 16 oz sized Grande Frappuccino.
Which of course is also more than the 13.7 oz bottled variety.
Straight black coffee has the most overall when it comes to service size. It packs nearly twice that of either Frappuccino.
Coffee Drink | Standard Serving Size (fl. oz.) | Average Caffeine per drink (mg) | Caffeine Per Ounce (fl. oz.) |
Bottled Frappuccino | 13.7 oz | 98 mg | 7 mg |
Grande Frappuccino | 16 oz | 105 mg | 6.5 mg |
Coffee (black) | 8 oz | 95 mg | 12 mg |
Black Rifle Coffee Company RTD Espresso with Cream Caffeine Content
Crafted with 100% Columbian coffee and filled with cream and coffee flavors, Black Rifle’s RTD Espresso is far more potent than a bottled Frappuccino. It packs a punch with a whopping 200mg of caffeine per can. This makes Black Rifle’s Espresso top the list for caffeine content compared to a Starbucks Frappuccino.
Hi Ball Energy Coffee Caffeine Content
Compared to a Starbucks Frappuccino, Hi Ball’s coffee energy drinks fall higher on the caffeine content scale.
For example, an 8 fl. oz. can of Hi Ball Energy Coffee contains 120mg of caffeine. That’s 10mg more than most Starbucks Frappuccino drinks, but well below the 200mg caffeine content produced by Black Rifle Company.
As energy drinks go, Hi Ball’s beverages have a lot less caffeine than other brands like Bang, Monster, or even Starbucks’ energy drinks.
Final Thoughts
Starbucks Frappuccinos are in range with a cup of coffee as far as caffeine is concerned and well under the FDA’s recommended daily limit of 400 mg. And if you are somoe who gets the jitters from too much caffeine, you are in luck. The versions have about half that of a regular cup of Joe.
Compared to other brands such as Hi Ball or Black Rifle, Starbucks Frappuccinos contain moderate levels of caffeine.
It’s a good idea to check the caffeine content for specific drinks if you’re sensitive to caffeine before you order. If you’re trying to avoid staying awake for half the night after a caffeinated drink, the Frappuccino’s at Starbucks are a good way to enjoy a coffee-flavored beverage without the high caffeine levels.
